Well heres my little story of my Swiss Army knife.
Me and a buddy were out on the mississippi river in a rickety little 12 foot johnboat with a 1958 evinrude motor on the back, were goin down the river at a nice pace. We kept the boat light because we were going to pick up some duck decoys, well we get close to the little islands that are spread out all thru out the middle of the river...then we hit a stump. the motor immediatly stopped giving any kind of thrust. We then used push poles we had in the boat to paddle/push to the island we were closest at. Well as I said earlier we were light, which means that we left our can with spare parts back at the truck, including a sheer pin, which is a soft steel pin that breaks in the event that the prop stops suddenly so that it doesnt trash the engine. Here we are in the middle of the river, atleast 4 miles from the truck and the worst...were downstream and a storm is rolling in. I dug around the island and found a piece of drift wood from a old duck blind, that had our savior...a 13 penny nail, thats the same diameter as the sheer pin thats busted. Then my SwissTool came out, because the penny nail was huge it wouldnt spin in the prop as it was so long, but my swisstool had a file on it so thats what I used to cut the penny nail down to size, it took a while but we got it done and repaired the motor. We didnt get back to the dock and truck before the storm, we got caught out in it but had I not had my swisstool to fix the motor we would have been stuck on the island..no way we could have rowed back in the storm. My faithful companion from victorinox has saved the day, once again.
